It all started with NetworkChuck, the 'Coffee.Hacking.Tech' youtuber.

I think it was me wanting to try out virtual machines since I've been curious about dual-booting operating systems, and isolating or compartmentalizing my pc, since from the age of 12 I've been torrenting all sorts of stuff.

Well, I've never had my PC infected despite that, even though I was only using Windows Defender (I got sick with the Norton Anti-Virus pop-ups, iykyk).

Attempt #1: Wordpress

I mean it's good: free domain names, free hosting; but I wanted to do more things than just blog and build a portfolio, and even the website has some quirks...

For some styles, you are going to have to pay, like getting a black background colour for your website for example... So if I'm going to have to pay, might as well pay for a proper domain and website.

It was a good place to start things for free, and you get a taste of the kind of work flow and effort that you need to get a bunch of webpages together.

Attempt #2: Github

I've been doing Angela Yu's Web Development Bootcamp on Udemy, sponsord by Singapore's National Library Board.

Attempt #3: Hostinger

Recommended by NetworkChuck, so I went ahead with it.

Paid for a 4 year package, which is about USD 180... but then I read in reddit that having your domain name and hosting at the same company isn't as good as an idea as it seems to be.

Attempt #4: Namecheap + Hostinger

So I went to Namecheap, and tried to register 'jbrienwebdev'. It suggested 'jbrienweb.dev' which I thought was cool, so I bought it. It was about $15/year.

I could have bought a domain in Hostinger for 0.99cents/year, but then it renews to $50++ the year after, so nah.

Attempt #5: Namecheap + Hostinger + Github

I haven't actually tried this, since I'm still going through Angela Yu's course. I'll update this some time later.

Attempt #6: Namecheap + Hostinger + Github + Wordpress

I wasn't intending to write about Attempt 5 and 6, but while watching Programming Is NOT Enough | Add these 7 skills…, I thought... It should be possible to use github to update the files on the host right? I guess that's basic... Then I though... what if I could combine everything that I've writtent about so far into Attempt #6, and lo and behold you can: WordPress GitHub: How to Incorporate and Use GitHub for Better Website Development
